Azerbaijanis destroyed the memorial dedicated to the freedom fighters of Getavan village.
In the completely depopulated Artsakh, Azerbaijani vandals continue to destroy the complexes and monuments that perpetuate the memory of the martyred heroes for the sake of the motherland. Hayk cultural ombudsman, Azerbaijani scholar Hayk Avanesov announced on his Facebook page.
"This time, the memorial dedicated to the freedom fighters of the Getavans who died in the Artsakh liberation war in Getavan village of Martakert region was targeted by Azerbaijan's cultural genocide. The opening of the monuments took place on September 7, 2016.
According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict, any act of vandalism, theft, robbery, misappropriation, hostility or reprisal against cultural heritage is prohibited.
The first Hague Protocol of 1954 prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual values in the occupied territories," he wrote.
